Food Security + Climate Change in the Canadian North

Thank you so much to Tessa Cheng (Health Research Development Officer at UBC SPARC) for her care and effort into creating this breakdown of the differences between both applicant pools for the Food Security and Climate Change in the Canadian North grant!

Key differences between research projects funded “build capacity for multidisciplinary [community-based research]”…  and position awardees as applicants for another future Team Grant competition in 2019 “bring together multidisciplinary teams of researchers, knowledge users and/or partners to work together to address food security and climate change in the North”
Composition and size of research team At least two people; specific requirement re an Indigenous Elder and/or Indigenous Knowledge Holder At least 3 – 5 people; specific requirements re representation from a new investigator, community member, policy/decision-maker, and sex and gender champion
Which one should you choose? How much work will be required in order to fully crystallize your research idea and coordinate with your community/academic partners? If you can fully develop your research idea and partnerships with only $15,000 and 2 months, then you should apply for the Team Grant. If you need a lot more money and time, apply for the “Other” grant.
